Your beacon should last approximately 4 years at our standard settings. PHY.net Advance and Enterprise subscription will detect battery state and you can signup for e-mail alerts for when your batteries get low.
Battery life depends on 3 primary factors:
- The type of battery used
- How frequently a beacon is set to advertise its message
- The strength (Tx power) with which a beacon advertises.
The age of the battery, exposure to temperature extremes, and sensors included in a beacon can also impact battery life.
There is a near linear relationship between advertising rate and battery life, in that doubling the rate will cut the battery life nearly in half. With qualifications mentioned above, the BKON A1 with alkaline AAA batteries should last 2 years with typical iBeacon settings and about 15-20% longer with AAA lithium batteries. Using Physical Web standards, that life extends up to 4 years.
